After four years of research, collaboration and innovation, the URBANE Project has officially come to an end, marking the conclusion of a joint effort to advance sustainable agroecological practices in peri-urban farming across Europe and Africa.
As one of the project partners, Waziup contributed its expertise in IoT and digital technologies to support farm-level data collection and smarter agricultural monitoring. The project brought together partners to promote a One Health approach, recognizing the interconnectedness of human, animal, plant and environmental health.
Among the key solutions developed through URBANE are the URBANE for Farmers App and Decision Support System, WAZI IoT solutions for farm-level data collection, smart pest monitoring tools, animal health monitoring solutions and portable sensing technologies. The project also developed business models and Participatory Guarantee Systems to strengthen sustainable farming practices.
One of the key lessons from URBANE is that sustainable agricultural transformation requires solutions adapted to local realities, with farmers and communities actively involved in the process. Technology must respond to the practical needs of those who use it.
Although the project has officially concluded, its impact is expected to continue through the tools, knowledge resources, policy recommendations and Long-Term Knowledge Network established during its implementation.
Waziup is proud to have been part of this collaborative initiative and to have contributed to advancing digital innovation for more sustainable, resilient and inclusive farming systems.
