Waziup, as one of the partners in the VocalizeIoT project, was part of IoT Day 2026 Kenya, which brought together industry representatives, government stakeholders, TVET institutions and innovators to explore how IoT skills development can support the green transition.

The event provided an opportunity to discuss the growing demand for IoT specialists in the green sector, the role of government policy in curriculum development, and the need to align technical training with industry requirements.

During the session on Opportunities in the Green Sector for IoT Specialists, Ernest Echitechi from the Kenya Climate Innovation Center (KCIC) highlighted opportunities for IoT professionals in the green economy. Discussions on government support for curriculum development, presented by Shadrack Agaki, explored relevant policy frameworks, including the Skills Development Policy (2023), CBVET, the TVET Act and the Digital Superhighway Policy.

The VocalizeIoT team also facilitated a review of the IoT Short Course Curriculum, gathering feedback from TVET institutions. Participants emphasized the need for the curriculum and expressed readiness to collaborate in its rollout, reinforcing the importance of co-creating training programmes that respond to learner needs and industry expectations.

The event further showcased practical innovations developed by TVET learners and innovators in smart energy, automation and environmental monitoring. Presentations included AIoT-powered smart home solutions by Nickson Kiprotich of Nuruforge, biometric attendance systems by Philip Nganda of Ruphids Autotech Solutions, and smart agriculture solutions by Bahati Bakulikira of iLabAfrica, Strathmore University.

For Waziup and its VocalizeIoT partners, these engagements highlight the importance of connecting technical education with real-world applications and emerging industry opportunities. Through collaboration among industry, government and training institutions, the project continues to contribute to building relevant IoT skills and strengthening the capacity of TVET learners to participate in the green and digital economy.
