The West African Climate and Environmental Data and Information Facility (WACEDIF) was officially launched on 1 October 2026, marking an important step towards strengthening access to climate and environmental data across West Africa.

WACEDIF envisions an open-access, citizen-driven platform that brings together scientists, farming communities and local innovators to co-produce reliable data and develop solutions that strengthen climate resilience.

The initiative is built around three key pillars:

  • Enhanced Observation: Using IoT- and AI-enabled systems to improve environmental monitoring.
  • Data Intelligence: Promoting interoperable, quality-checked data supported by AI-assisted analysis.
  • Capacity and Sustainability: Building entrepreneurship skills and supporting the development of sustainable, data-driven solutions. At the heart of WACEDIF is a connected journey: Sense → Connect → Share → Act. Weather stations and soil sensors collect environmental data, which is transmitted through WaziGate and shared through the WADI 2.0 platform. The data is then transformed into actionable insights to support decision-makers and farming communities.

Through this approach, WACEDIF seeks to bridge the gap between environmental data collection and practical action, ensuring that relevant information can support better planning and climate-informed decisions.

Waziup is proud to contribute to this initiative, bringing its expertise in IoT infrastructure, connected sensing and digital platforms to support the development of a more informed, connected and climate-resilient West Africa.
