Waziup e.V. has been selected as one of 10 AI Infrastructure Builders under the Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Development (AI4SD) initiative, through the AI Hub for Sustainable Development. The selection is represented by Waziup’s Managing Director, Dr.-Ing Abdur Rahim Biswas.
The programme is endorsed by the G7 and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in partnership with Italy’s Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy (MIMIT), under the Mattei Plan for Africa.
This recognition marks an important milestone for Waziup as it contributes to advancing Africa’s capacity to develop, deploy, and manage its own AI infrastructure. The initiative focuses on building sovereign and future-ready digital foundations, including localized data centres, cloud platforms, renewable energy integration, and payment systems that support local currencies.
Waziup’s work within the programme contributes to this vision by exploring infrastructure solutions that keep African data within the continent while enabling locally driven AI development and deployment.
The initiative brings together an international network of partners, including UNDP, Microsoft, Amazon Web Services (AWS), CINECA, the African Development Bank Group, and government institutions across Africa and Europe.
Through this programme, Waziup looks forward to strengthening partnerships, supporting sustainable digital infrastructure, and contributing to an AI ecosystem where African innovators have greater capacity to build and shape technological solutions for the continent’s future.
