Waziup e.V. participated in the Africa, Data & the Internet of Things – Edition 2 webinar, held on 7 April, bringing together technology experts, researchers, and practitioners to explore the role of IoT and data in addressing Africa’s development challenges.

The session featured Waziup’s Managing Director, Dr.-Ing Abdur Rahim Biswas, alongside Rob van Kranenburg, David Li, Joy Tang, Stephen Ferber, and Dan King’ori.

Discussions focused on the importance of developing technology solutions grounded in local realities and informed by the needs and experiences of African communities.

Key areas explored included:

Building IoT solutions that respond to real local needs and challenges.

Leveraging ICT to support community-driven innovation.

Exploring the role of data and connectivity in sustainable development.

Strengthening local capacity to develop and deploy technology solutions.

The webinar also highlighted the importance of learning from existing technology deployments across different African contexts before introducing solutions based on assumptions that may not reflect local realities.
