Waziup e.V., together with its KijaniSpace project partners, recently hosted the KijaniSpace Talent Programme Hackathon at LakeHub in Kisumu. The two-day event brought together students, developers, engineers, innovators and entrepreneurs under the theme “Hack for Aquaculture & Crops using Earth Observation & IoT.”

Participants worked in multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative solutions addressing real-world challenges in agriculture and aquaculture. Using Copernicus Earth Observation data, IoT technologies and the KijaniBox API, teams explored how digital technologies can support more sustainable and climate-resilient agricultural practices.

Throughout the hackathon, participants received mentorship from experts, collaborated on ideas, rapidly developed prototypes and pitched their solutions to a panel of judges. Beyond the competition, the event provided a platform for strengthening technical skills, encouraging entrepreneurship and fostering collaboration among emerging innovators.

Through its involvement in KijaniSpace, Waziup continues to support practical capacity building in IoT, AI and Earth Observation, empowering young people to develop technology-driven solutions that contribute to sustainable agriculture, food security and climate resilience across Africa.

Waziup extends its appreciation to all participants, mentors, judges, LakeHub and the KijaniSpace partners for contributing to a successful hackathon.
